Baby

Melchior is gisteren om 10h00 geboren, nadat de oppas/brei- 'tante' om 00h20 gebeld was om te komen oppassen op zijn grote zus, zodat papa en mama naar de kliniek konden gaan. Helemaal geweldig natuurlijk. Het is echt een droppie.

Alleen euh.... ik heb z'n trui nog niet af ;-) Wel van de week de perfecte knopen gevonden bij La Droguerie: houten klompjes!

Melchior was born yesterday at 10h00, after the babysit/knitting 'aunt' had been called at 00h20 to babysit his big sister so mummy and daddy could go to the clinic. Totally awesome of course. He is so cute.

Except uhm.... I didn't finish his sweater yet ;-) However, I did find the perfect buttons the other day at La Droguerie: wooden shoes!

Concert

Het concert was fantastisch! Ik kon met mijn Louvre Jeunes pas de kaartjes tot een kwartier voor aanvang van het concert ophalen en alles was netjes geregeld. We hadden hele mooie (dure) plaatsen in het 'orkest' vlakbij de middengang. De Salle Pleyel is vrij groot en licht en er is genoeg beenruimte (wat ik in Frankrijk nog nooit heb meegemaakt).

Het concert was echt ontzettend mooi. Ze speelden drie stukken, waarvan de laaste (Variations sur Enigme) voor mij de absolute topper was. Misschien omdat ik een variatie (Nimrod) meerdere keren met Honsels Harmonie heb gespeeld. Maar zeker ook omdat het orkest bijna 'muisstil' kon spelen. Ik was ontzettend ontroerd na dit mooie stuk.

Na het concert zijn we teruggelopen naar Charles de Gaulle- Etoile en hebben we lekker bij de Quick (Franse McDonald's) gegeten ;-) We hebben gezellig zitten praten over onze toekomst en gedroomd over een appartement in Vancouver. Zulke gesprekken komen bij ons niet vaak voor, want er is nauwelijks tijd om gewoon te praten (werk, hotel, appartement, etc.), laat staan een 'diep gesprek' te voeren.

Dankzij het Louvre hadden wij dus een heerlijke soirée en amoureux.

The concert was amazing! I could get the tickets with my Louvre Jeunes pass up to fifteen minutes before the start of the concert and everything was well take care of. We had very good (expensive) seats in the 'orchestra' near the middle isle. The Salle Pleyel is quite big and light and there is enough space to put your legs (which was the first time for me in France).

The concert was really beautiful. They played three pieces of which the last one (Variations sur Enigme) was the most beautiful for me. Maybe it's because I've played one of the variations (Nimrod) multiple times with Honsels Harmonie. But also because the orchestra could play 'withouth making a sound'. I was very moved by this piece.

After the concert we walked back to Charles de Gaulle- Etoile and had dinner at Quick (French McDonald's) ;-) We had a nice talk about our future and dreamed of an appartment in Vancouver. These kind of conversations don't happen a lot with us, because we barely have time to have a normal talk (work, hotel, phone calls, appartment, etc. ), let alone a 'deep conversation'.

So thanks to the Louvre we had a lovely soirée en amoureux.

Uit / Out

Ik heb twee kaartjes gewonnen voor l'Orchestre de Paris :-D Vanavond zijn wij dus hier. Ik laat jullie morgen weten hoe het was, maar het programma ziet er goed uit.

Sc(h)ot

Er is niet alleen rugby in Parijs deze week, er is ook voetbal. Alleen hangt er al een rugbybal in de Eiffeltoren en is er geen ruimte voor nog een bal :-)

Vanavond is het de wedstrijd Frankrijk- Schotland in het Parc des Princes. Al twee dagen is de helft van de kamers in ons hotel bezet door Schotten (waarvan sommige zich al bekeerd hebben tot het drinken van wijn). Vanavond zat ook de hele metro vol met Schotten in vol ornaat (het heeft wel iets) en stonden ze boven bij 'mijn' metro-uitgang met een doedelzak sfeer te maken.

Volgens de mannen in kamer 31 is 0-0 genoeg voor de Schotten om door te gaan, maar het ligt ook aan wat Italië doet. Ik hoop dat ze winnen, want ik moet morgen in het hotel werken (Alleen gelukkig niet tijdens de check-out als ze moeten betalen). ;-)

There's more going on in Paris than rugby this week, there's also soccer. It's just that there's already a rugby ball hanging in the Eiffel tower and that there's not enough space for another ball :-)

Tonight is the match France-Schotland in the Parc des Princes. Since two days half of the rooms in our hotel are occupied by Scotsmen (some of whom have already converted themselves to drinking wine). Tonight the metro was also full with Scotsmen in their full costumes (it has a certain appeal to it) and they were upstairs near 'my' metro exit with a bagpipes creating a nice atmosphere.

According to the men in room 31, 0-0 is enough for Schotland to pass, but it also depends on Italy's results. I for one hope they win, because I have to work tomorrow in the hotel (Fortunately not during check-out when they have to pay). ;-)

WIP update

Even een snelle update. Naast veel werken, de studie en het leegruimen (en schoonmaken) van het appartement van N's moeder, wordt er toch ook nog wel iets aan breien gedaan. Dit wordt de Peapod Cardigan van Knitting Daily. (Er is een gratis account nodig om de gratis patronen te kunnen bekijken). De toekomstige ontvanger wordt aan het eind van de maand geboren, dus ik moet wel een beetje doorbreien.
Ik vind deze wol zelf erg mooi en het is heel zacht, maar toch in de machine te wassen. Is de kleur te donker voor een baby?

Just a quick update. Besides working a lot, my studies and clearing (and cleaning) the appartment of N's mum, there is some occasional knitting going on. This will be the Peapod Cardigan from Knitting Daily. (You need a free account to take a look at the free patterns). The future recipient will be born at the end of the month, so I have to speed up the knitting a bit.

I really like this wool and it's very soft yet washable in the washing machine. Is the color too dark for a baby?
