Orkestweekend/ Orchestra week end

Een zenuwslopende auditie twee weken geleden, maar met een goede afloop "On va faire de belles choses ensemble" ("We gaan mooie dingen maken samen"). Ik heb een plekje weten te bemachtigen in het orkest van L'Académie Inter Musicale de Paris Het orkest bestaat uit 29 leden, waarvan 7 fluiten, 2 klarinetten en 1 hobo en de rest strijkers.

Tot gisteren wist ik eigenlijk niet hoe dichtbij ik bij een afwijzing geweest was en dat mijn auditie me 'gered' heeft: Voor zo'n (klein) orkest zijn er veel te veel fluiten, maar de 6 anderen draaien al een jaartje (of wat) mee en kunnen moelijk uit het orkest gezet worden. Eigenlijk wilde de dirigente er dus niet nog een fluit bij hebben...totdat ze me hoorde spelen (niet mijn woorden ;-) ) Ik speel nu 1e fluit en samen met een Japanse meneer (die al 8 jaar in het orkest zit) de solo's. Ik heb dus min of meer mijn Honsels Harmonie functie :-)

Er zijn zes repetitie-weekeinden over 9 maanden en aan het eind een groot concert. Tot nu toe hebben we de volgende stukken gerepeteerd:

Dvorak - Sérénade
Khatchaturian - Danse du sabre
Shubert - Military March
Rambeau - Dance Suite (Danse du Grand Calumer de la Paix)

Gisteren tijdens het spelen merkte ik opeens dat ik muziek maak in het Nederlands! De dirigent telt hardop trois, quatre... en mijn rusten tel ik in het Nederlands. Ook gebruiken ze hier do, re, mi voor de noten en totaal andere woorden voor hele noten, halve noten, kwartnoten, achsten en zestienden. Het is even wennen, maar nu weet ik van sommige noten al wat het is 'in het Nederlands'.

Het volgende weekend is in december en er is al een fluitenrepetitie gepland. Het concert is 14 juni 2008 20h00 in Parijs.



A nervewracking audition two weeks ago, but with a happy ending. "On va faire de belles choses ensemble" ("We're going to make nice things together"). I got a place in the orchestra of L'Académie Inter Musicale de Paris The orchestra has 29 members of whom 7 flutes, 2 clarinets, 1 oboe and the rest strings.

Until yesterday I had no idea how close I had been to a rejection and that my audition 'saved' me: For such a small orchestra there are way too many flutes, but the other 6 flutes have been playing for (a couple of ) years and can not be denied their place in the orchestra. The conductor didn't want an extra flute... until she heard me play (not my words ;-) ) Now I play 1st flute and together with a Japanese gentleman (who's been playing in the orchestra for 8 years) the solos. I sort of have my function of Honsels Harmonie :-)

There are six rehearsal weekends spread over nine months and a big concert at the end. This weekend we rehearsed the following pieces:

Dvorak - Sérénade
Khatchaturian - Danse du sabre
Shubert - Military March
Rambeau - Dance Suite (Danse du Grand Calumer de la Paix)

Yesterday while we were playing I suddenly realised I play music in Dutch. The conductor counts aloud trois, quatre... and in my head I count in Dutch. Also they use do, re, mi for the notes and completely different words for the names of the notes. It takes some getting used to, but of some of the notes I already know what it is 'in Dutch'.

The next weekend is in December and we've already planned a flute rehearsal. The concert is 14th June 2008 at 20h00 in Paris.

Verwend!/ Spoiled!

Woensdagavond lag er een pakketje in de bus van mijn Secret Pal en ik ben echt superverwend. Allereerst een heel mooi tweetalig boek met patronen voor echte Estonian Mitts. Mijn pakketje komt namelijk uit Estland!

Wednesday night there was a package waiting for me from my Secret Pal and boy did I get spoiled. First of all a beautiful bilingual book with patterns for real Estonian Mitts. Yes, my package is from Estonia!

Twee bollen Austermann Defilé mohair in donker bordeaux. Heel mooi. Ik zit al te bedenken wat ik daarvan ga maken... een mooie sjaal misschien in kant? Een bolletje Austermann Mayfair in bordeaux en een in oranje en een haaknaald. Nu kan/ moet ik dus leren haken: geen uitvluchten meer ;-)

Two skeins of Austermann Defilé mohair in a dark bordeaux. Very beautiful. I'm already thinking what to make with it... a nice lace shawl perhaps? One skein Austermann Mayfair in bordeaux and one in orange and a crochet needle. Now, I can/ have to learn how to knit: no more excuses ;-)

Twee pakjes klei: een lila en een rose. Ik denk dat ik daarvan ga proberen stekenmarkeerders te maken. Een zakje met hele leuke vlinderkraaltjes die vast en zeker zullen eindigen als stekenmarkeerders, oorbellen en een ketting :-) Een glazen vis als ketting en een broche (bloem). Een lekker ruikende houten knoop (daar zie ik al een mooi vest 'aan' zitten lol). Een magneetje van een schaap (Today I eat 7 wolves, tomorrow I will eat 8th). En twee heerlijke repen chocolade (wit en bruin, met schattige foto's erop van een hondje en een konijntje YUM).

Two pieces of clay: one lilac and one pink. I think I will try to make stitch markers with those. A bag with very nice butterfly beads which will most certainly end up as stitch markers, earrings and a necklace :-) A necklace of a glass fish and a broche (flower). A really nice smelling wooden button (in my mind that's already 'attached' to a nice cardigan lol). A magnet of a sheep (Today I eat 7 wolves, tomorrow I will eat 8th). And to very nice bars of chocolate (white and hazelnut, with cute photos of a dog and a rabbit YUM)

Bizarre!

Ik schrijf net een stukje over het baby setje, bel m'n vriendin om een afspraak te maken om langs te komen en ga alles netjes inpakken. Snel schrijf ik nog even een kaartje met de eigenschappen van de wol en de wasvoorschriften om erbij te stoppen. Ik kon zo snel even geen bandje vinden van de wol, dus pak ik mijn Bergère de France catalogus om de wol op te zoeken... De kleur heet Melchior! Hoe is het mogelijk?! Ik heb de wol vorig jaar al gekocht en ben begonnen met breien voordat hij geboren was en ik z'n naam wist. Ik heb het gekocht als kleur no. 228.251...



I just finished writing my post about the baby set, called my friend to make an appointment to go visit her and started wrapping everything. I wanted to write a quick note with the composition of the yarn and how to wash it to put with the sweater. I couldn't find a band from the yarn, so I checked it in my Bergère de France catalogue... The color is called Melchior! How is that possible?! I bought the yarn a year ago and started knitting even before he was born and I knew his name. I bought it as color no. 228.251...

Pea Pod Baby Set & Saartjes Bootees

Eindelijk heb ik de Pea Pod Baby Set af voor Melchior. Het breien ging heel snel, maar de zoektocht naar de perfecte knopen zette het project op pauze. Uiteindelijk heb ik ze gevonden bij La Droguerie: houten klompjes voor de schattige (ahum) prijs van 1.30 Euro per stuk. Toch moet ik eerlijk toegeven dat het er wel heel mooi uitziet.

Als extraatje heb ik een paar van Saartjes Bootees gemaakt.


Finally I finished the Pea Pod Baby Set for Melchior. The knitting went very fast, but the quest for the perfect buttons put the project on hold. In the end I found them at La Droguerie: wooden shoes for the cute (ahem) price of 1.30 Euro per button. However, I have to admit that it looks very nice.
As a little extra I made a pair of Saartjes Bootees.

Duimen/ thumbs

Vandaag om 12h15 heb ik een auditie voor een (amateur) orkest in Parijs. Willen jullie voor me duimen?

3 x Prison Break + 1 Desperate Housewives =

Gisteravond na mijn test voor Duitse les heerlijk zitten breien voor de tv. De wol is Yarnlust Donegal Sock in de kleur Autumn Maple. In het echt zijn de kleuren iets lichter, maar ik heb nog niet alle knopjes van mijn nieuwe camera geprobeerd (of alle 156 pagina's van de gebruiksaanwijzing gelezen).

Yesterday evening after my test for German class I spent the night knitting in front of the tv. The yarn is Yarnlust Donegal Sock in the color Autumn Maple. In real life the colors are a bit lighter, but I haven't used all the buttons on my new camera yet (or read all 156 pages of the manual).

So(c)ktober

Oktober is dè maand om sokken te breien. Vandaar dus Socktober. Ik weet niet eens meer waar ik die term ben tegengekomen, maar het klinkt leuk en ik heb nog een paar sokken te gaan:

- de Monkey Socks voor mijn Monkey Sock Swap pal;
- de Child's French Sock uit Knitting Vintage Socks van Nancy Bush voor de KAL;
- ik loop al een tijdje te bedenken waar ik de sokkenwol die ik in Vancouver gekocht heb voor ga gebruiken...



October is the month to knit socks. That's why 'Socktober'. I don't even know where I found that word, but it sounds nice and I have some socks on my list:

- the Monkey Socks for my Monkey Sock Swap pal;
- the Child's French Sock from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush for the KAL;
- I've been thinking for a while what to knit from the sock wool I bought in Vancouver...
