Startitis & UFO's

Ik heb op het moment te veel dingen tegelijk op de naalden. Serieus, ik zie door de bamboenaaldjes het bos niet meer :-P Daarom heb ik me aangemeld bij Finish Me! op Ravelry. Ik heb nu 8 projecten op de naalden en eentje waarvan ik niet weet of ik die ooit afmaak (ik ben er nog niet over uit of ik het leuk vind). Ik heb mezelf beloofd dat ik in ieder geval Femke's sokken afmaak voor ik aan haar jurk begin (lijkt wel zo aardig, gezien haar verjaardag een maand geleden was). Ook wil ik Clapotis voor het eind van het jaar af hebben. Het is zo'n mooie sjaal, maar zoooo saai. (En waarom, WAAROM moest ik het weer zonodig op 3mm naaldjes doen, zodat het tenminste helemaal lang duurt?!) Het liefst wil ik ook nog een trui of twee afmaken voor het eind van het jaar (en zodat ik er nog iets aan heb dit seizoen).

Om het nog erger te maken, ben ik dinsdag met Femke naar de Phildar winkel geweest in rue Monge om te profiteren van mijn 'vaste klanten'-korting (!) voor de wol voor haar jurk. Ze heeft me 'omgekocht' (in haar woorden) met een zak Impact no 3.5 in de kleur Jeans en verschillende modellen (waaronder een superschattige catalogus met intarsia Disney figuren!). Het liefst was ik 's avonds al aan de jurk begonnen, maar ik had haar beloofd dat ik in ieder geval een boek uit zou lezen voor mijn scriptie voordat ik eraan mag beginnen. Streng he? :-P

At the moment I have too many projects on the needles. Seriously, I can't see through the bamboo needles anymore :-P That's why I've joined the Finish Me! on Ravelry. Right now I have 8 WIP and another one of which I'm not sure I will ever finish it, because I'm not sure I like it. I promised myself to at least finish Femke's socks before I start her dress (seems like the least I can do, considering her birthday was a month ago). Also I would like to finish Clapotis before the end of the year. It's a very nice scarf, but soooo boring. (And why, WHY did I have to knit it on size 3 mm needles, so it really takes forever?!) I would really like to finish a sweater or two before the end of the year (so they can be useful this season).

To make things even worse, I went to the Phildar store in rue Monge with Femke to profit from my 'regular customer' discount (!) for the yarn for her dress. She 'bribed' me (her words) with some Impact no 3.5 in Jeans color and some catalogues (among which a really cute one with intarsia Disney figures!) I would have loved to start her dress the same night, but I promised her I would at least finish one book for my thesis before starting her dress. Pretty strict, uh? :-P

Aapjes kijken/ Looking at monkeys

Ze zijn binnen! Mijn Monkey pakketje van de Monkey Sock Swap 3. Ik heb de sokken al aan sinds ik ze uitgepakt heb en vond het jammer om ze uit te doen om te gaan slapen :-) De kleuren zijn geweldig en ze passen precies.

They have arrived! My Monkey package from the Monkey Sock Swap 3. I've been wearing the socks since I unpacked them and thought it was a shame to take them off to go to bed :-) The colors are amazing and they fit perfectly.

Hier een foto van het apenpakket ;-) Natuurlijk de sokken, maar ook het Thelonius patroon van Cookie A., een hele mooie bol handgeverfde wol van The Yarn Yard in de kleur Adventurous Plum (dat belooft wat!). Ook zat er een schattig paars aapje in met magneetjes in zijn pootjes dat nu aan mijn magneetbord hangt, een hangertje voor aan m'n mobiel met een aapje dat gaat dansen als de telefoon gaat en een metalen apenboekenlegger. Het grappigst is misschien wel dat er een doosje stekenmarkeerders van Wee Ones bij zit, dat hetzelfde is als wat ik naar haar gestuurd heb, want Sarah was èn mijn spoilee èn mijn spoiler lol. We hebben elkaar hetzelfde cadeau gestuurd :-)

Here's a picture of the Monkey Package ;-) Of course there are the socks, but also the Thelonius by Cookie A., a very nice skein of hand dyed wool of The Yarn Yard in the color Adventurous Plum (very promising name!). It also had a very cute purple monkey which has little magnets in its paws and which is hanging on my magnet board right now, a nice hanger for my cell phone with a little monkey which dances when your phone rings and a metal monkey bookmark. The funniest part of this all is that there was a little box of stitch markers from Wee Ones in the box, which is exactly the same as the one I sent her, because Sarah was both my spoilee and my spoiler lol. We sent each other the same gift :-)

Verjaardag/ birthday

Mijn oma heeft me in oktober/ november 2006 sokken leren breien. Dat is nu dus een jaar geleden. Ik kan gerust zeggen dat ik verslaafd ben aan sokken breien en sinds ze het mij geleerd heeft, heeft er altijd een sok op mijn naaldjes gestaan. Al mijn sokken (die af zijn) staan hier.

My gran taught me how to knit socks in October/ November 2006. That's a year ago. I can easily say I'm addicted to knitting socks and since she taught me, there hasn't been a day without a sock on my needles. All my (finished) socks are here.

Stitch 'n Bitch 2007

Afgelopen zaterdag was de Stitch 'n Bitch-dag 2007 in Rotterdam. Wij hadden ons ingeschreven voor twee workshops: een workshop double knitting met Debbie Stoller en een workshop miniatuur kralenbeursje breien met Anke Grevers. Verder zouden we lekker gaan rondneuzen en proberen binnen ons gestelde budget te blijven.

De workshops waren geweldig wij hebben er ontzettend van genoten. Double knitting is helemaal niet zo moeilijk als je de truc doorhebt. Het is alleen heel erg opletten. We kregen het patroon mee aan het einde van de workshop en ik heb al een bestelling voor een sjaal in grijs/ zwart voor Kerst :-) Ik heb net deze week een boekje gekocht met 1000 patronen erin die je kunt inbreien of borduren, maar volgens mij nu ook met double knitting kunt maken. De mogelijkheden zijn ontelbaar!

Het kralenbeursje maken was een heel gepruts, maar het resultaat is schattig. Ik had nog nooit iets gebreid met kraaltjes, maar het is vrij eenvoudig als je het 'systeem' begrijpt. Het beursje ziet er heel chic uit, maar eigenlijk is het heel simpel.

Behalve de workshops heb ik lekker sokkenwol gekocht (niet zo makkelijk te krijgen in Frankrijk), twee setjes sokkennaaldjes van Clover en stitchmarkers van Clover. Ook heb ik een pakket voor een sjaal gekocht bij Colinette. Ik wilde graag de lichtgroene wol. Achteraf staat er op de rekening dat die wol 'parisienne' heet: hoe krijgen we het voor elkaar! :-) Verder hebben we vooral patronen en tijdschriften gekocht om ideeën op te doen voor toekomstige projecten.

Zijn we binnen ons budget gebleven? Ja en nee. Natuurlijk heb ik veel meer gekocht dan alleen sokkennaaldjes, maar toch hebben we ons heel erg ingehouden en vooral lekker gekletst en alles rustig bekeken en gevoeld. (Ligt het aan mij of is het heerlijk om in wol te knijpen en te voelen hoe zacht het is op je hand? lol)

Volgend jaar probeer ik weer mijn bezoek aan mijn ouders rond deze dag te plannen, want het was erg gezellig en leerzaam.

Last Saturday was Stitch 'n Bitch-dag 2007 in Rotterdam. We had reserved for two workshops: a workshop double knitting with Debbie Stoller and a workshop to knit a beaded bag with Anke Gevers. Other than that we planned to walk around and try to stay within our set budget.

Both workshops were great and we really enjoyed ourselves. Double knitting isn't that hard if you get the trick how to do it. You just really have to pay attention. We took the pattern home at the end of the workshop and I already have an order to make the scarf in black and gray for Christmas :-) Just a few days ago I bought a book which has 1000 patterns to knit or to sew on something, and I think it can be double knitted also. The possibilities are endless!

The little beaded bag was a bit of a hassle to make, but the result is very cute. I had never knit anything with beads, but it's quite simple if you get the 'system'. The little bag looks really chic, but it's actually pretty simple to make.

Besides participating in the workshops, I bought sock yarn (not so easy to come by in Paris), two sets of sock needles from Clover and a little bag of stitch markers from Clover. I also bought a kit to make a scarf from the Colinette stand. At night we found out from the bill that the light green color I liked so much (and bought) is called 'parisienne': how do we do it?! lol Other than that we mostly bought patterns and magazines to get ideas for future projects.

Did we stay withing budget? Yes and no. Of course I bought much more than just the sock needles I was going for, but I managed to contain myself a bit. We mostly talked and enjoyed seeing and touching the yarn. (Is it me, or is it really nice to touch the yarn and feel how soft it is on your hand? lol)

Next year I'll try to plan my trip to my parents around this date, because I really had fun and I learned some new skills.
