Vintage Sock Swap

Look what I received yesterday! The parcel from the Vintage Sock Swap. The idea is that everybody knits their partner a pair of socks from the book Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. In the questionnaire you could mention any preference for a pattern or a color, etc. I said 'surprise me', because I like all the patterns and I never know which I will knit next :-)

And surprised I was! Look:

The swap is secret, so you don't know how you're 'talking to' until you receive your package. I exchanged really nice emails with someone called Erin. She's from Vancouver, BC and she sent me the most beautiful socks (which, of course, I put straight on). They're a really nice blue/ green which goes very well with the pattern of the Child's First Sock in shell pattern. (Here is a picture of mine which I made with the yarn I bought in Vancouver. Sorry, the link is to Ravelry and you must be a member to be able to take a look.)

Besides the socks there are many knitting tools in the package: a really cool pair of pink knitting needles, really big stitch holders which will come in very handy because I only have one which is about a third of the size and a really neat pair of scissors. (The scissors will avoid another drama like the time I cut a hole in my Ivy cardigan while trying to weave in the ends lol)

She gave me all the names of shops to check out next time I'm in Vancouver, her favorite chocolates and of course I received some really cool Vancouver souvenirs (with Olympics theme) By coincidence the socks are in the Olympic colors too.

FO: Child's French Sock

Mijn eerste FO van 2008: Child's French Sock uit Knitting Vintage Socks door Nancy Bush. Gemaakt voor de Vintage Sock Swap.

De eerste sok was even wennen aan het patroon. Bij de tweede dacht ik dat ik het wel wist na de boord en voor ik het wist had ik de 20 cm voor het been al af. Aangekomen bij de hiel, kwam ik erachter dat ik in de naald direct na de boord een aantal meerderingen had moeten maken (wat ik niet in mijn geheugen had opgeslagen na de eerste sok).... Dus, alles uitgehaald en overnieuw begonnen.

Ik vind ze zelf erg leuk en ik hoop dat de ontvangster dat ook vindt. Nog even een kleurboek kopen voor de kleine en dan kan het op de bus naar de VS.

The first sock took a bit of getting used to the pattern. With the second sock I thought I knew how to do it after the cuff and before I knew it, I had about 20 cm for the leg finished. When it was time to make the heel, I noticed that actually I should have made some extra stitches in the needle right after the cuff (which I didn't save in my memory after the first sock)... So, I frogged the whole thing and started over.

I really like them myself and I hope the recipient will feel the same. I just have to buy a coloring book for the little one and they can be shipped to the US.
